Let's continue talking about the manufacturing of Dealfa products. In the first article we saw how a model of a leather product is born. Once the article has been designed, it is time to move on to the actual work: printing the model on the leather. The first thing to do will be to cut the leather into the desired shape.
Second step: cutting.
Cutting is the second step in the production of a product. In this step the base of the article is created, and it is the crucial step in the production.
First of all, there is a careful check of the piece to be used. If the latter has imperfections, such as holes, marks and veins, the model will be positioned specifically to avoid them. Sometimes, however, these imperfections enhance the product, giving the coloring elegant and unusual shades.
Once the piece of leather has been chosen, we move on to cutting it.
There are four types of cut, to be used depending on the final product.
The Classic cut , the oldest, uses a rigid model, which defines the shape of the piece, and an awl, which with small and precise strokes will incise and define the shape of the product. Once the incision is complete, you will move on to the clean cut, with the help of a cutter and scissors. For thicker skins, specific scissors will be used.
Another ancient cut is the cut into strips. This type of cut is used to obtain strips intended to become belts or support bands for bags and shoulder straps. It is always done by hand, with the help of a regulating tool, to obtain a millimetric result.
The third type of cut, the most complicated, is the hand cutting . It requires great skill and precision, since it is done directly with scissors, a precious tool in this work.
The last type of cut is the one made with the press . This machine has 3 knobs that regulate height, pressure and cutting activation. Using a die, the product is cut into the desired shape. The press is generally used for mass production.
All of this is behind the final product, and we are only at the second step.
